September School Safety Update
Each month, I make a point to review the safety drills we practiced, and I’m pleased to share that we have already had two successful drills in September.
• School Secure Drill - Wednesday, September 16:
Teachers swept the hallways to bring students and staff inside, locked classroom doors, and continued normal classroom activities. Our teachers and staff did a wonderful job practicing this procedure.
• Earthquake Drill - Tuesday, September 22
Our first earthquake drill of the year went remarkably well. Students evacuated the buildings and lined up with their classes a safe distance away from buildings in three minutes and 11 seconds. Our goal is under three minutes, and I’m pleased with how we did for our first earthquake drill of the year.
If you arrive on campus during a drill, a sign will be posted on the front doors of the office notifying you of the drill in progress. We appreciate your patience, as our entire staff participates in these important safety practices.
With upcoming on-campus activities bringing our entire community together, we also appreciate your help keeping campus secure. Please enter through the Eader Office and exit through Gate 5, closest to the flagpole. When leaving, please make sure the gate is closed and locked behind you. Although our staff checks gates throughout the day, your support helps us keep campus safe for everyone.
Library Visits Start This Week
We are pleased to share that students will begin visiting the Eader Library this week.
Our school librarian, Mrs. Jessica Ratledge, has been hard at work preparing the library and planning engaging activities. We are pleased to share that our students can look forward to:
• A new 3D printer and exploring 3D design through Tinkercad while working on grade-level projects throughout the year.
• More than 100 new books! New titles arriving soon for our students to discover and enjoy.
• AR Book Bingo - A reading challenge students can complete at their own pace to earn fun 3D-printed prizes.
• Book menus - Guides organized by grade level and interests, including AR levels, to help students find their next great read.
• New artwork now fills our library walls, bringing the space to life with color, creativity, and imagination and making an already special place even more inviting for our students.
• Reading and Learning - Lessons on caring for library books, exploring new genres, and learning about cultures from around the world through read-alouds and activities.
We encourage you to ask your child about their library day and hope you’ll enjoy exploring their book selections together. Your support in caring for their books and returning them when they’re ready for a new read helps build good borrowing habits.
Eader Glee Club Sign-Ups Now Open
Does your child love to sing, perform, and have fun with friends? Sign-ups are now open for the Eader Glee Club, offered exclusively to 4th and 5th grade students.
This free program will include a Winter Concert in December and the annual HBCSD Choral Festival in March.
Glee Club meets Thursdays before school from 7:45–8:30 a.m., with the first meeting on Thursday, October 1st. CLICK HERE to sign up. Updates will be shared through ParentSquare and email.

Cancelled: Eader Beach Day - Sunday, September 27
Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to cancel this year’s PTA-sponsored Beach Day, scheduled for today.
The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Orange County beaches through Sunday afternoon, forecasting elevated surf, strong rip currents, and unusually high tides that may cause minor coastal flooding and erosion.
With the safety of our students and families as our first priority, we believe canceling is the right decision.
We know many families were looking forward to spending the afternoon together, and we share that disappointment.
Thank you to our PTA for planning this event and for helping us monitor conditions.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding and look forward to more opportunities to come together as an Eader community.
Family Picnic on the Lawn - Thursday, October 1
Please save the date for our Family Picnic on the Lawn during Airshow Practice Day! Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and join their child for lunch on the Eader field.
Please see the information below for more information:
• Parking will be significantly impacted, and families should plan on parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. Please allow yourself ample time to find parking and walk to the location where you will meet your child. Arriving early is recommended, as we want to avoid any stress on our students if families are running late.
• Local restaurants are also typically overwhelmed on this day as several nearby schools hold similar events during Airshow Practice Day. If you plan to order food, please place your order well in advance. The easiest option may be to pack a lunch at home and walk or bike to school.
• Families will enter campus through the Eader Office and meet their child on the blacktop before walking to their designated area on the school field.
• All families should bring beach chairs or blankets for comfortable seating during the picnic.
• Parents with multiple children in the same lunch period are welcome to bring one child to the other’s location on the field so they can enjoy the picnic together. Please note that students will not be dismissed from class to join a sibling in a different lunch period.
• Families are welcome to stay until the end of their child's lunch period.
• All guests must exit through Gate 5 only.
• Finally, for on-campus activities that welcome parents, the expectation is that families enjoy the event and students remain in class until the final bell. Important instruction continues until the end of the day.
If early checkouts begin to take place during these events, we may need to reconsider offering these on-campus community experiences in the future.

Eader Dine-Out Fundraiser at Golden Spoon - Tuesday, October 6
Join us for our first dine-out fundraiser of the school year on Tuesday, October 6 at Golden Spoon! Stop by for a sweet treat while supporting Eader and our PTA.

Eader’s Second Annual Trunk or Treat - Thursday, October 29
Join us from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for Eader’s second annual Trunk or Treat.
Last year’s event was a hit and we hope everyone can make it. More information, including costume guidance, will follow.
As always, costume weapons, including fake weapons, are not permitted on campus.
Spring Sing - Save the Dates
Spring Sing is a long way off, but we wanted to share these dates early to help your family plan ahead.
• Friday, May 28: Grades 2, 3, and 4
• Friday, June 11: TK, Kindergarten, and Grade 1
• Thursday, June 17: Fifth grade will perform during their promotion ceremony that morning.
Performance times and additional details will be shared as we get closer.
Yearbook Update: We Need Your Photos!
Throughout the year, we will be requesting photos from school events to help make our yearbook a special collection of Eader memories. We are currently looking for photos from the first day of school - please feel free to share any pictures you captured!

Reflections Schoolwide Art Contest - A Message from the Eader PTA
Calling all artists! The reflections contest is coming up! This year's theme is "What my Culture Means to Me."
Students can submit an art submission in the categories of visual arts, dance, photography, music composition and poetry.
Students may submit an entry in each category. All entries must be turned in on Friday, October 16, during morning drop-off at the tables next to Gate 5.
Reflections flyers were sent home on Friday.

PTA will lead a brainstorming activity for the Reflections art contest in the STEM room during lunch on Wednesday, September 30. Students interested in participating are encouraged to stop by and explore ideas for their submissions.

Parking Lot Safety & Efficiency - Please Thoroughly Review
With only a single lane entering and exiting our school parking lot, please keep in mind that one car has the ability to severely impact and hold up the entire line. To help keep traffic moving and ensure safety:
• Please have your child prepared to leave the vehicle safely and quickly on the curbside (school side).
• Stay in your car at all times.
• Pull up as far as you can, even past the gate, so the maximum number of cars can unload along the curb.
• Do not pull in front of other cars if there is a hold up.
• When leaving the parking lot, right turns only are permitted.
• Do not park or leave your vehicle in any area marked with a red curb.
